Saturday 24th March 2007 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

Hawick.

Great place, great people.

Why does it have to be so far away??!!

It takes about 2 hours or so to get to the Mayfield (I haven't a clue as I don't do the driving), but it always feels like going home when I get there.  I am remembered every time, and people come just to enjoy my blend of pop, oldies and my favourite - rock.  Glen has got to be one of the nicest guys I have ever met (apart from Al of course lol).  His taste in music is my own, so I can pretty much get away with anything.  I tried out Echo Beach by Martha & the Muffins and The Buzzcocks' Ever fallen in Love, both of which went down a storm.

Tonight was relatively quiet though - only around thirty people in as opposed to the standing room only I usually have.

I'll let you off this time.  Don't let it happen again.

As an aside, who the hell ordered the fog?  We could barely see 50 yards ahead on the way home...

Saturday 9th December 2006 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

Well, as I always say "show your appreciation and I'll give a good show!" As always this venue knows that to really enjoy an act you have to be out for a good time and ready to show it. I love the crowd down here, they make me feel good and that's why I travel 80 miles each way and don't get to bed till 4 on these nights...

more money would be nice tho...

Saturday 9th September 2006 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

Wow. Wow. Wow. What a place.  What a reception.  What a night.  Go there. Nuff Said.

Saturday 22nd July 2006 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

Another good gig at the Mayfield.  It is always worth coming such a long distance to receive a good welcome.  Glen and the gang are getting to be good friends now, and we always have a bit of banter.

I had a bit of a nightmare the first section.  I was far too hot (note to self - wear a skirt on hot days!!) and I fluffed up Pearl's a Singer (unforgivable!).  Despite this, I bucked up during the break and came back my old self (maybe it was the wine I had in the break......?)

it was a holiday weekend, and a bit quieter than usual, but the atmosphere didn't suffer for it.

Some Pics of the great night out to be had at the Mayfield Bar

Saturday 27th May 2006 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

I say it every time.  What a place!  Welcoming, generous, willing to enjoy themselves, game for a laugh.  I wish this pub and its punters were nearer to home!

I was made very welcome by Glen, the owner, who suggested that next time I come down, Al and I should make a night of it.  His restaurant is (he tells me) the best in Hawick, and there are plenty of places to stay over.

It's a pity I'm working when the Common Riding weekend starts, as this town would be an excellent place to stay for the weekend.  If you are local to the area, don't miss the weekend experience.  Details are posted inside the pub.

Saturday 25th March 2006 - Mayfield Bar, Hawick

I am so glad I could make it to the Mayfield again!  My throat infection was still hanging about, but I didn't want to let Glen down.  They love a bit of rock at this pub, which suits me down to the ground.   Go to this pub!!!!!!!

I had a fair few Glayvas during the evening (for medicinal purposes!) and they seemed to clear my chest as well as getting me a bit tipsy..

I made a few jokes about this being the last chance to have a cigarette inside your local pub, which can only be a good thing.

no more stinking like cigarettes at the end of the night.  Our equipment smells too, so I'm gonna give it a good scrub this week.

Saturday 22nd October 2005 - The Mayfield Bar, Hawick

I can't say it enough - I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!  What a crowd.  What a reception.  What a night!

I have appeared here four times now, and I am in LOVE with the place!  Glen always makes me more than welcome, and the crowd are always up for a good time.  The people who were here this night had been out to Kelso races all day, and were obviously looking to enjoy themselves.

I feel so at home here I am happy to try out any new 'patter' I have been thinking about, and they are happy to "partake of a bit o' banter".  People were up on the tables and chairs, and there was standing room only for most of the night.  My rocky set goes down really well at the end of each gig - for this I am truly thankful.

Saturday 11th June 2005 - Mayfield Bar, HawickIt's me on a roof...

When I was in Hawick the first time, I must admit to being a bit daunted at the prospect. I had never played anywhere that far from home (it took over 2 hours to get there!) and I'd only ever passed through the Borders on the way south.

This time I was looking forward to meeting all of the friendly people I saw last time, and I was a bit more relaxed about the material I wanted to do.

The only thing I was nervous about was playing on the roof.  Yes, the ROOF!!  They have a flat roof on the restaurant, and each year on the weekend of the Common Riding they have an act up there.  When Glen asked me last time if I was afraid of heights, I said I was okay with it.  I soon changed my mind after I had climbed up the ladder onto the roof! unfortunately there was no other way of getting down but to go down the ladder.  After much hysterical giggling and protests, Alan eventually persuaded me to come down.  After that it got easier each time, and by the end of the day I was a bit happier about it.

I was really impressed with our new equipment, and the sound it made in the open air was rich and warm.

Thanks to everyone who offered and gave me sunscreen during the afternoon.  I had completely forgotten about being outside in the sunshine for the afternoon.  I'm a redhead too, so I really needed it!
